Emberglow Resort/Chimney Rock
Today I'm talking about our recent trip to Mill Spring, NC to stay at Emberglow Resort. We chose to stay here because we wanted to be close to Lake Lure, you know where the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed :)
Emberglow Resort is about a 15 minute drive from Lake Lure. We booked our site online, and rate locked into site 1. It was a level spot for the most part and backed up to site 2, which was where our friends were staying. I'm not sure I would recommend this site if you have a back window on your rv because privacy could be a concern if you don't know your neighbor. Other than that, the site was pretty great and offered trees along the camp side and a fire pit. We purchased our firewood from the store onsite and some hoodies because the weather was getting chilly. The park is new and clean. It not only offers rv sites, but also treehouses, yurts and vintage campers that can be rented. It was nice walking around the grounds, they also have hiking and a kids play land area. The pool was closed when we were there, but it was fairly nice and big from what I could tell from outside the fence.
You've probably read my blog post about our love for Blowing Rock, well Lake Lure has easily slipped into that number one spot in our hearts of places we want to retire. Blowing Rock has that small town feel that we love, but Lake Lure has the mountains and the lake bumping it up a notch.
We visited Chimney Rock early to avoid the crowds. Once you park, you are shuttled by bus midway up the mountain. You would not believe how close to the edge you get and how fast the bus seems to be going. Then you exit the bus and begin the climb to the top of the mountain. The views are spectacular!!
We made it to the top! Check out that unfiltered view.
Views for miles. Again, we couldn't have asked for better weather.
The stairs going up are no joke especially after having a heavy Thanksgiving dinner. After we made our way back down the rock we visited their gift shop for a magnet for our rv fridge. We have a collection going from all the places we've visited.
We were starving from all those stairs so we decided to try Burntshirt Vineyards at the bottom of Chimney Rock that gave us this awesome view. If you look closely you can see a waterfall. The food and wine were amazing and our friends were able to join us.
After lunch we walked around and found some places to take pictures along the river. There were also a good amount of shops to visit.
It's hard to believe we climbed our way to the top of this rock.
The rest of our trip was spent driving around Lake Lure and visiting the town. We really enjoyed wandering around. Later that evening we had dinner back at our campsite. The kids and adults enjoyed cornhole and a campfire with drinks and hot cocoa. We can't wait to go back soon. I really want to take the Dirty Dancing tour and visit more of the lake next time.
